Kobe Bryant's Retirement

Aijaz Wasay

Its hard to believe Kobe Bryant will be lacing it up one final time this wednesday. In what will be a raucous Staples Center arena, thousands will pile in, and millions will tune in, to see the legendary “Black Mamba” play his final NBA basketball game. He is a 5 time NBA Champion, 1 time MVP, 18 time NBA All star, and holds incredible records within games, such as scoring 81 points in one game. However, all these records are not what i’ll remember Kobe Bryant for.

It was Kobe’s competitive nature, and his passion towards the game he loved, that helped me in achieving goals within my own life. I watched Kobe play for over a decade, and his display of fierce drive was always motivating to watch. Being the gym head that I am, I would have off days, lacking motivation. When this would be the case, i’d just watch a motivational Kobe Bryant speech, and next thing you know i’m tossing up 260 lbs on the bench press. It was always leading by example that motivated me to be like Kobe. He walks his talk. He’s always considered himself the best, and if you didn’t agree with him, he never cared. I’m not preaching the implementation of a narcissistic mentality. Im simply stating the confident demeanor Kobe carried along with him, and that demeanor is what translates to many accomplishments in life.
