SBU Supply and Date
Auction
Photo creds to Chloe Kim
Supply is
an organization in which strives to activate urban slum youth through
education. The supply uses donated money to provide scholarship in schools in Nairobi,
Kenya. The reason why we do this project is that 70% of Nairobi’s urban population
lives in slums and they are not eating right and living in dangerous environment.
Young kids in these areas are getting little education or not getting
education. However, hope for people in slums is only could be achieved by
education, and we, the Supply, could have them better education and enhance their
quality of life.
As a
member of Stony Brook University Supply Chapter, I went to SBU Supply’s event
today. We had planned a date auction for our upcoming World Slum Day. Basically,
people voluntarily chose to be auctioning and write three facts about
themselves. When the auctioneer called up their name, then they came out and
introduced three facts about themselves. They were sold when someone wanted him
or her for the date. Sometimes, two or three people competed to get hot date mates.
Although I
didn’t participate in the date auction, I had lots of fun there. I think the
date auction is a good way of gathering people and donating money for college males
and females since they can donate money while enjoying themselves.
