On Streaming

The world is changing. We all love our own list of media, including our favorite movies, tv shows, youtube and twitch channels, etc. Being able to quickly open a website and began watching your favorite content is a gift from modern technology. However, this new system has had some growing pains. In the old days, people would take an hour to watch 42 minutes of content, with many interruptions for lots of adds. For most people these days, that doesn’t fly. If I can’t skip an add in 5 seconds, I’ll probably go find something else to watch. Not to mention that with one cleverly worded google search I could find the content for free with no adds and no download required (not that I would never stream pirated content, even though it’s literally unavailable in my area… I swear.)

Some services have taken advantage of how people most enjoy content. Like Netflix: everyone is fine paying 10 bucks a month to watch literally years of content without any adds. It doesn’t help that Netflix’s system makes for binding stupidly easy. Seriously, who has the will power to exit when the next episode is going to be on in 4…3…2…1.

I’d love to see other companies realize (looking at you, network TV) this and adapt their platforms to survive in the future. Thankfully there is a lot of competition in this field, which hopefully means better and better systems for the consumers.
