Muse and the Kinect

My favorite modern band is Muse. They’re music is incredible. In addition to fantastic albums, they do absolutely breath-taking live shows. From having huge drones flying around on their album, “Drones” tour, to the classic knocking over the speakers, Muse does it all. Muse doesn’t skimp out on their live shows. As such, they take full advantage of opportunities given to them from the technology world. Music mainly is an alternative rock band and use classic instruments: guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. However, for their fifth and sixth albums, they integrated some elements of dubstep and EDM into their music. One of my favorite late-night songs is Madness of their album The Second Law. When playing this live, they use a guitar with an iPad attached to it. I love the diversity this adds to their music, and it makes live shows all the more exciting.

Muse has started using xbox Kinects in their live shows to add even more natural excitement to the shows. I think the improvisation of it all, that is, adding in effects based off what’s the artists are feeling and doing, rather than having pre-cut effects that the artists adapt to, greatly adds to the overall quality of the live show. I’ve seen them live before, but not recently enough to experience these new effects, so I guess I’ll be looking for tickets soon.
