On Oculus.

Very recently, the Oculus Rift, the original Virtual Reality Headset, *finally* was released to the public. Is this the next big thing? It’s certainly incredibly cool, and programming for it is extremely fun. The idea of virtual reality, living in and being a part of your content, is an incredibly solid pitch. Even though the technology is new, it’s been fully embraced by media production, the gaming industry, and even the adult industry. There is also a massive amount of hype surrounding all of VR. It’s bound to explode, at least initially.

Hopefully the technology is assessable enough to quickly reach a high market share when gen2 or gen3 is released. I think it’s popularity will bottle neck unless the team does a good job of marketing it to everyone who could benefit from the product; rather than it just being a really cool toy for gamers and geeks. I’m hopeful that it will take off. If it does, it will create more and more competition, which will create better and better technology, which will improve the experience and lower the cost. I’m very much looking forward to the advancements in this area that we’ll see in the future. Hmm, future. That seems like a good word to describe the technology of virtual reality.
