Yik Yak is an app that is primarily meant to be for college students. It always you to post anonymously to others in your region and to see what others are posting. At Stony Brook students will use it to ask others for information about classes or other various things. Sometimes it's good as an easy way to vent about something anonymously, that others may be able to sympathize with. On the darker side of Yik Yak there are many people looking for a quick hookup or to purchase drugs. In case you leave the area, the app has a feature where you can set your 'herd' and still view those posts while you're gone. It's often a place of humor, where people will make jokes about events that happen at Stony Brook. The posts can get a up votes which allow them to appear in the 'hot' section so it's easy to find the most popular posts. The posts that get down-voted to -5 are automatically deleted off of the feed.
