In modern times, the purchase of a camera isn't as much of a necessity. Until the popularization of the smartphone and their camera upgrades, most people owned a camera. Now anyone who owns a smartphone also has a decent camera integrated into it. There isn't a need to buy anything more than that when you can take nice photos and videos from the phone you always carry around.
