Racism

Aijaz Wasay

After attending a protest in New York to stand against a potential Donald Trump election, a saddening reality sunk in for me. That reality is, racism indeed still does exist, and its still an unfaltering force. You would think a protest against a politician would be surrounded by simply opposing political views of multiple parties, but such was not the case in a Donald Trump protest.

There was a large group of individuals in attendance at the protest, but they weren’t in attendance to support or protest against Trump. Instead, these individuals were present to protest against races and religions. To be specific, a strong sense of hatred towards Islam was present, as well as a powerful hatred towards immigrants. Its easy to point the blame to Trump for spreading a negative influence on citizens towards Muslims and immigrants, but it is still upsetting to see how closed minded many American’s still are. To generalize an entire race or religion for the mishaps of one individual of a race or religion is simply foolish and unacceptable. As a Muslim however, this simply motivates me to be a better person; to show those protesting my religion that I stand for all the right and loving things on this earth.
