Modernists vs the Impressionists

Essentially, it was a symbolic and emotive way of painting, evident in the work of Cezanne, Gauguin, and Van Gough. Here the artist would try to capture the subjective qualities of an image rather than the impressions of light in a scene, as seen in in Impressionist works. The Post-Impressionists not only veered away from traditional methods of painting, they also removed the constraints of Impressionists works by placing more of an emphasis on the formal qualities of their composition.
Modernism 3

This process of notable development is known as modernization. It refers to the transformation of respective environments in regards to technological, scientific, medical and cultural breakthroughs. Modernism refers to the aesthetic reflection of this change and encapsulates the subjective meanings of all the elements in the newly developing world. This reflection was effectively explored and explained through much experimentation and deliberation, through all forms of creative expression. This bold exploration birthed ‘Modern Art’ and all of it’s iconic pieces whether it be; paintings, buildings, musical pieces, plays, photographs or film. Modern art expressed that ‘spirit of the now’ in its earliest days through post-impressionist art.

Modernism 2
Towards the end of the nineteenth century, around 1860 after man had considerably conquered the machine, a new reality became prevalent in the lives of the newly industrialised world. “Modernism includes more than just art and literature. By now it includes almost the whole of what is truly alive in our culture”(Greenberg 1982:5) This quote can be applied to the earlier days of modernism When jobs had changed from agricultural based employment to corporate and menial based labour. Housing situations had too changed, from rural to urban, as people began to follow the money trail the industrial revolution had left behind. All this change had brought a new way of life for the western world, as things became automated and products were readily available to the consumer, modernity had established itself.
Iron Man

John Favreau’s Iron Man proved that the power of science could be used to solve almost all problems. Tony Stark is locked away from his tools and tech gismos and is told to make a nuclear warhead, but he uses his ingenuity and whit to find a way out of his situation. Then he uses his newfound understanding of struggle to fix some of the things going wrong in the world.  With science and technology
Film 1

Generally when people think about film it’s considered to be the most definitive breakthrough medium of the postmodern era, however the waters run deeper. Film embedded itself in the modernist ear towards the turn of the century from 19th to the 20th however its ides with censorship kept it from being a mode of expression in the US, up until the late 60’s when film code laws eroded away following the 1952 Miracle decision court case that gave film the ability to exercise the 1st and 14th amendment.

Modernism 1

Modernism’s pretty interesting. It can be defined as the post-industrial revolutionary era, where which the western world began to see a change in all spheres of living. The effects of the industrial revolution became prevalent towards the end of the nineteenth century and the modernist movement drew inspiration from this widespread change. Artists, writers, architects, designers and musicians, all began to embrace the changing world and denounce their pre-taught doctrines and previous ways of producing work. Society felt the urge to progressively move forward toward a modern way of thinking and living
