Last semester StonyBrook University was a site of many Hoverboard users. People were showing off their balancing skills by using the Hoverboard as a form of transportation. They went uphill and downhill but surprisingly didn't fall, well most anyways. Personally I fancy walking and am horrible at anything to do with balancing so I did not try to maneuver one. It was cool to see all of people on Hoverboards just standing and shifting their weight to move the board though. At first I didn't what the machine was called and afterwards found out it was called the Hoverboard. My first reaction was that is not a hoverboard.
This semester I came back and after a few days I noticed that I haven't seen anyone using Hoverboards. I thought that maybe I just haven't been paying attention but a few weeks later I found out that Hoverboards were banned in almost all universities including StonyBrook. Now as I look more into it Hoverboards are actually banned in some cities and even countries. This happened because of incidents involving the Hoverboard catching on fire. This is one of the cases where an amazing invention was released without covering enough of its problems. This ban was unfortunate but hopefully Hoverboards will be unbanned when improvements are made.
This incidence with Hoverboard reminds me that process of bringing a product into being and keeping it alive is arduous process. Mishaps happen and plans fail but when it finally comes together the inventor can be proud. With the different inventions coming out there will be setbacks and accidents but it will improve and continue.
