The Da Vinci Surgical System is a robotic
surgical system made by the American company Intuitive Surgical. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in
2000, it is designed to facilitate complex surgery using
a minimally invasive approach, and is
controlled by a surgeon from a console. In short, it is giant machine that surgeons use to do surgery. Behind the console, its like a giant video game with joysticks and buttons and 3D display. Though it means less invasiveness for the patient, the machine is horrible for doctors. Many surgeons complain that it elongates the time of a surgery. Also the controls are hard to follow and adapt to. In short, robotics is making progress in virtually all fields but medicine may not be one.
