In class, we discussed the amazing invention of the Oculus Rift. When my professor asked how many people have tried it, I felt out of the loop being one of the only people who haven’t heard of it nor tried it out. When my professor described it to us, he described it as something that you put on your eyes which makes you see different scenes and when you turn your head, you see more. It becomes your new reality. It also connects to your ears so that you not only see this new reality, but also hear it. You become immersed in this new reality. The Oculus Rift has competition now, though. The HTC Vive has feature that the Oculus Rift doesn’t: touch sensors. The HTC Vive was what the Disney artist, Glen Keane, used to make new, three-dimensional, sketches. But, the HTC Vive is more expensive at about $200 more. One of the students in my class mentioned that the HTC Vive lets players know if they’re about to walk into a wall, which is a great thing to have on technology as advanced as this. While companies are trying to advance further and further, we cannot forget the safety of the people who will be buying the products. I believe my professor mentioned that there are even more companies making inventions similar to these which increases the competitiveness. I believe that these inventions will change the lives of gamers, that is, if they have the money.
