Technology Affects Zombies

Technology affects the perception of society in many ways. Scary movies nowadays struggle to provide the best experience by incorporating formulas of the right amount FX, hue, visibility, suspense, etc. All of these continual advancements and incorporation of science affects society’s perception on multiple things. One of these many influences is on how we see zombies. Before, zombies were considered mythical creations: they were demon spawns, or corpses that came back to life to kill the rest. The old image of zombies ushers the dominance of spirits and ghosts, magic, and heavily influence of religion and faith. All these are principles of a society that is not technologically centered, or science oriented. But now, in particular, I am Legend and Zombie Land, give insight to change in the way we view zombies. The zombies in these movies and many more are now the resultant of viruses and devastating side effects of pharmaceuticals. This change of zombies suggests that people find this more feasible than before and therefore is scarier and taunting to the general audience. I strongly believe that this change is the result of the evolution of technology and incorporation of science into everyday life.
