With the current Stony Brook security system that is in place, your student ID card can only admit you into your residential building. I think that they should change it so that the ID’s can get into any other dorm building, up to a certain time. At many other universities in the US, they have this in place. It makes it much more convenient when visiting friends, instead of having to wait outside for someone to open the door for you. The main reason they don’t let you into any building is because the risk of theft, but as long as people lock their room doors the risk is not much greater. If someone wants to get into one of the buildings they still can, it just is a hassle having to wait for someone to come to the door. Even if they increased the ability of the ID’s to open buildings within the same quad, it would be a nice improvement.
