phones consume our lives

Taking the train home with a dead phone can be quite stressful and boring. Without a phone, what is there to do on a 2 hour train ride? I decided to spend my time observing my surroundings. I noticed that nearly every person was consumed in some form of technology; people watching videos on phones and tablets, people sending messages, people making phone calls, people taking selfies, and people with headphones in. One thing I did notice that almost seemed strange was that there was an older man on the train that was reading a paperback book.  He stood out among the many people with their faces being lit up by glowing screens, and it was refreshing to see someone not so consumed by technology.
